TranzPort and PG Music’s Band-in-a-Box 2007

Band-in-a-Box Window

Turning over a new year can mean a lot of different things to people. For Band-in-a-Box users the start of 2007 means the release of another great update to their beloved software. And among the important new features is support for TranzPort, the world’s first wireless DAW controller. Band-in-a-Box and TranzPort together make a very powerful team, providing the user with wireless remote operation of many critical functions from the comfort of your piano bench. No running back to the computer to select a song, or balancing your laptop on the bench next to you.

Sure TranzPort provides remote Play, Pause, and Stop control, but that doesn’t begin to cover it. Select patches or entire songs from your favorites list, change tempos, loop sections, set volumes, or just solo a track. Use the TranzPort to transpose a song so you can play along with an instrument of a different key. The built in data wheel and 2×20 character, backlit display make it all a snap with instant feedback so you know exactly what is happening even if you can’t see you computer monitor all the time.

Band-in-a-Box Setup

Beginning with Band-in-a-Box 2007 support for TranzPort is built right in. Follow the instructions for installing the basic TranzPort drivers on your PC, found in the User’s Guide or Quick Start Guide, set the TranzPort for “Native” mode and open your Band-in-a-Box application. Band-in-a-Box will recognize the TranzPort automatically and begin communicating with it.

There are 2 PDF documents created specifically for Band-in-a-Box 2007 users on the Frontier Design Group website. The first, “BiaB_and_TranzPort”, is a guide to using TranzPort with Band-in-a-Box and contains detailed instructions on how to use some of TranzPort’s less-obvious features. A quick reference chart listing the control set for Band-in-a-Box is found in this useful document.

The second file, “BiaB_Layout”, is a single page picture of the TranzPort with overlaid text also summarizing the Band-in-a-Box feature set. It may be helpful to print this file and have it handy as a quick reference guide.
