Backup
iShred lets you save your songs wirelessly over the web to the Frontier Song Server. You can later retrieve them from the server to your iPhone. Your songs remain your private data, and all data transmissions to the Frontier Song Server are done using 128-bit SSL encryption.
You can use the web backup feature to:
- Save a backup copy of your songs should your iPhone ever fail (NOTE: syncing to iTunes creates a backup of your data, but not something you can selectively recover).
- Create a copy of a song by backing it up, renaming the song on your iPhone, and then retrieving the backed up original song.
- Be creative without losing something great. Backup a copy of your song and then feel free to experiment with chords, sounds, recordings ... all knowing that if it does not work out well, then you can retrieve the original.
- Offload songs from your iPhone, letting you keep all your song data without having thousands of songs at any one time in your playlist.
- Share songs between multiple devices by backing a song up to the server from one device and then retrieving it on a different device.
- Exchange songs between iShred and Guitar by backing up a song from one app and then retrieving it on the other.
- Create an extra registration so you can share songs with your band.
Registering an Account
To use the Frontier Song Server, you must first register for an account. From the main screen, tap the General Menu button
in the lower left corner and select "Playlist." To access the backup features tap the fourth icon on the bottom toolbar ... the one that shows wireless upload/download arrows.
The registration page prompts for a Nickname, Password, and a valid Email address (pick a Nickname that's appropriate for public use should you wish to participate in sharing songs on AirPlay). Both Nickname and Password must be at least five characters long. The email address is used to confirm your registration (you can't register without a valid one). If you ever lose your password or need it reset we'll use this email address to send a new one.
You may also be asked to permit the use of your location. We grab your location to use should you ever choose to Share songs on AirPlay (a world map shows the approximate area a song was recorded).
Once you've filled out the fields press the GO button on the Keyboard. If all goes well you'll get a "Registration Succeeded" notice and will see a Code entry page. Check your email, you'll get an email with a four digit confirmation code. Dial in the code and press Login in the upper left corner.
If for some reason you don't get the confirmation email, either because you typed in the wrong email, or your dog ate it, hit the red Restart Login button at the bottom of the code page. It will remove your temporary login information and start the registration process over.
Once the code is successfully entered you'll see the Backup screen and can start backing up your songs. Before we cover that, let's go over the other sections of the Accounts page (accessed using the Accounts button at the bottom of the Backup page).
Once you have created a registration you are able to use it on any iPhone that's running iShred (or Guitar v1.2) by logging in with the same Nickname and Password. You can be logged in on multiple devices and will remain logged in until you log out, which brings us to ...
Logout
Thinking of lending your iPhone to a nephew so he can iShred for a while? Back up your songs and log out so you can recover when he's done. Heck, give him his own registration so he can backup and pick up where he left off at the next family get together, or when his parents finally break down and buy him an iPhone.
Change
Breaking up is hard to do and even though your ex may get the dog and the Beatles collection there's no way you should take the same chance with your iShred backups. Changing a password only takes a few easy taps.
Reset
If you forget your password this is the way to reset it. Choosing this option iShred will create a brand new password and send it to the email address you used when you registered. To ensure it's you we ask that you to confirm the original Nickname and Email address.
Backup Screen
The Backup screen consists of two pages, controlled by a pair of buttons at the top: iPhone (or iPod Touch) and Web Backup.
The first page, iPhone, lists all of the local songs in your playlist including information about when, or if, they were last backed up. The icon to the left of each song name is used to back up that song to the Frontier Song Server. There's also an All button at the top of the page for backing up all of the songs.
The second page, Web Backup, lists all of your backed up songs. Each song features a download icon and there's an All icon as well for restoring all of the files.
Note: when using the All option to backup all songs or recover all of the web backups a dialog is displayed to verify the operation. We suggest using the All option only when you have a fast, reliable connection.
