Topic: AlphaTrack won't record fader moves on start-up

I'm a DP7/Mac Pro/Snow Leopard (all current versions) user and anytime I start up DP my AlphaTrack seems to initialize and start-up fine...all read outs coincide with my tracks in DP. However, in order for it to record any fader movements I have to physically unplug it and plug it back in before it will read or write.

It's been this way for a long time (since DP7...maybe 6) but I've just been dealing with it. Now, I'd like to figure it out as I'm going to wear out the usb input by continually unhooking/hooking it.

btw, I have the latest drivers form this site and have done a reinstall a couple of time and it hasn't helped.

Thanks in advance for any advice on how to fix this.

Hi rpmusic,

I'm running an AlphaTrack in DP 7 and can't seem to replicate these symptoms.

If you create a new project with just a couple audio tracks in it, give me step by step instructions as to what you're doing to try to record automation.

I opened a project, navigated to an empty audio track, pressed the AlphaTrack's 'auto' button, turned the middle and right encoders to 'ON' and then the left encoder I set to 'Touch'.

I pressed play and moved the fader and was able to see automation being recorded on the Track.

Are you set up correctly in "setup/control surfaces/setup"? Do you have any other midi devices in your setup?

I have opened a new DP7 file with a couple of audio & midi tracks. The display screen on the AT shows the track select correctly, and I can even go from track to track with-in DP7 and it will display the correct track in AT's window.

The problem is that the volume fader on AT doesn't a) control volume, and b) won't record any fader data unless I physically unplug it and plug it back in from the back of the AT or the usb hub. The usb hub is powered.

Right at the moment, I only have the AT set up in the "Control Surface Set-up..." to add any confusion. Normally, I have the Alesis Master Contol Studio Interface under that set-up also.

Hi rpmusic,

First, I would try bypassing the hub and plug the AlphaTrack directly into your computer, then launch DP and see if it behaves any differently. 

If not, try unplugging all other controllers except the AlphaTrack and launch DP and see if it behaves any differently.
