recording error

Hi,
I recently crashed and re-installed all of my programs I am on Windows XP with Cubase 5, everything was working properly prior to the crash.

When i use the record button it starts and stops recording immediatly, leaving a small blip showing the function started to record--but the does not stay actively recording.

Also the track buttons do not scroll from track to track as they used to, they illuminate the small vertical white line beside a group of tracks.

Also when I use the record enable button multiple tracks become active to record, like 3 or 4 random tracks in a project

I used Shift+stop+Battery and checked all of teh asterics were OK.
Any help is deeply appreciated.
