Hi everyone,

I'm making my rounds to let everyone know that updated drivers (now supporting the 64-Bit kernel) are now available for AlphaTrack (v1.4) and TranzPort (v1.4.3) on our site:

http://frontierdesign.com/Products/AlphaTrack/Downloads
http://frontierdesign.com/Products/TranzPort/Downloads

Don't forget to unplug your device prior to installing the drivers.

Hi pandora,

Unfortunately there's no way to adjust the resolution of the encoders but flipping an encoder onto the fader by using the 'flip' button will put the full range of a parameter onto the fader and that would allow you to make quicker adjustments.

CS

Hi pandora,

If you navigate to a track then press the automation button on the AlphaTrack and once there, select automation mode "touch" with the right encoder.

Then, you can use the AlphaTrack's "pan, send, eq, plug-in" mode buttons to automate a track's volume/pan (pan mode), send levels (using the send mode), EQ (using the eq mode) or plug-in parameter automation (using the plug-in mode).

If you click on the 'send' mode the right encoder is mapped to send level and you can either automate using the encoder or you can press the flip button on the AlphaTrack and use the AlphaTrack's fader to automate the send levels.

If you click on the 'plug-in' mode use the left encoder to select your plug-in "Guitar Amp Pro" for example. Then press the plug-in button a second time and by pressing the 'flip' button on the AlphaTrack you use the fader to automate any of the parameters that are mapped to an encoder. You can also use F2 and F3 (on AlphaTrack) to page through a plug-in's parameters.

Once you selected the parameter to automate just press play and you will be able to use touch automation using the AlphaTrack's fader to automate send levels, plug-in parameters or track volume/pan levels.

You shouldn't need to use 'learn mode' for any of this.

CS

Hi pandora,

Can you explain how you're setting up the AlphaTrack in Logic for automation?

All you should have to do is navigate to a track press the 'Auto' button on the AlphaTrack and then use the right encoder to select which automation mode you want (in this case, touch).  Then press play and use your fader for automation.

Hi darkestlondon,

We expect an updated TranzPort version either by the end of this week or early next week with the AlphaTrack following about a week later.  Not sure if we'll do a beta version but I'll keep you posted.

TranzPort drivers should be ready for testing by the end of the week, AlphaTrack, next week. After a bit of testing to make sure everything is working properly they will be released. Most likely TranzPort first (since they will be finished first), then AlphaTrack shortly after.

Hi pjl,

We did estimate them to be released this calendar month. We will have TranzPort drivers ready for testing by the end of this week and AlphaTrack next week. After a little testing to make sure there are no surprises they will be released. Most likely TranzPort first, then AlphaTrack.

The 64-Bit drivers are expected to be release some time this month.  So it shouldn't be too much longer.

CS

Hi pjl,

We expect a release some time this month.  I'll try to answer all posts regarding 64-Bit AlphaTrack/TranzPort drivers so everyone is aware of the release.

Hi jakky,

Unfortunately it will only work in versions of Cubase 3.02 and later.

Hi whomper,

If the fader doesn't move during recalibration then there's definitely something wrong with the hardware.  Where are you located?

I recommend contacting support@frontierdesign.com

You may need to send it in for the repair.

CS

Hi Jan,

Those plug-ins worked fine for me on my mac but I'll try this on a Windows 7 machine just to confirm.

Do you have any other midi controllers in your setup?

CS

Hi Jan,

Can you give a specific example (name) of a plug-in in Cubase 5 that doesn't work for you?

Hi Jan,

The knobs should change the values on your LCD display.  I'm not sure what that's all about.  Let me try loading Cubase 5 onto a Windows 7 machine and see if I can reproduce that.

If you go to www.midiox.com and download midi-ox do all 3 knobs have similar results in midi-ox's midi input window?  You'll probably need to go into options/midi devices (in midi-ox) and make sure that AlphaTrack is selected in both midi input and midi output fields for the AlphaTrack data to be displayed in midi-ox's input window.

Just make sure that all 3 knobs act the same way.  This will be able to tell you if the three knobs are working at all.  I suppose it's possible that the knobs are at fault?  Or is there another way that you can prove they work?

CS

Hi Jules,

This sounds like a noise/grounding issue.  I'd first try to recalibrate the AlphaTrack by pressing shift+stop+f4 on the AlphaTrack.

If that doesn't work, I'd make sure that your system is properly grounded.

Hi Toonman,

It sounds that all that's left is the fader.  Unfortunately it sounds as if there's some sort of hardware failure with the AlphaTrack.

The recalibration is a test that is run completely in the AlphaTrack and doesn't need drivers loaded or any sort of communication with the computer, it only needs power.  So when the recalibration doesn't work it's usually safe to say that there's something wrong with the device.

We do repairs but we would have to issue you an RMA number first.  So if you would like to go ahead with the RMA I'd send support@frontierdesign.com an email requesting one.  Make sure you give them the following information:

your shipping address
your phone number
your AlphaTrack serial number
approximately where/when you purchased the AlphaTrack

Hi Toonman,

What exactly does the AlphaTrack's fader do when you try to recalibrate (shift+stop+f4)?  Try the recalibration a few times and let me know how it moves each time.  I will be able to tell if there's a hardware problem by how the fader moves during recalibration.

Are you plugged into a USB hub?

For ProTools, to launch ProTools try right clicking on the ProTools icon and selecting 'run as administrator' and see if you get better results. Of course it won't matter too much if there is a hardware issue but I do know that you will most likely need to launch ProTools as an administrator.

As for the AlphaTrack icon in the notification area, is it possible that the icon is hidden such that to get access to it you'll need to click on an arrow to access other icons in the task manager?

Hi nefferson,

Did you make sure to configure the AlphaTrack in Nuendo?  After you add the AlphaTrack as a remote device, click on 'AlphaTrack' under remote devices (in the device setup window) and on the top right should be two dropdown boxes: 'midi in' and 'midi out'.  Both of these should be set to "AlphaTrack" for it to work properly.
