Hi WaveTable,

Does this happen every time you try to use the AlphaTrack in soundtrack?

Hi TommyN,

Unfortunately in ProTools we're limited to emulation of a HUI so there's no way around the highlighting the 8 channels in the mix mode in ProTools.

Same applies for recognizing and adjusting plug-ins. If it's acting this way on the AlphaTrack I tend to think it acts the same way on other HUI devices. I don't have Duende or DrumStrip so I can't test it here but can you let me know if this happens on any other plug-ins for example, the built in plug-ins in Protools?  If so, give me a specific example and I'll check into it.

Hi flyinblind,

Can you give me the exact file path of that 'midi folder' you put the plug-in into?

If you go to Logic/Preferences/Control Surfaces/Setup, does the AlphaTrack show up there?

Also, which AlphaTrack plug-in did you put there?

Hi Andy,

What seems to be the problem?  Did you make sure that you installed both the new driver "AlphaTrack Macintosh Installer v1.4" and the new plug-in "Logic Plug-in v1.3"? From here:

http://frontierdesign.com/Products/AlphaTrack/Downloads

The driver is an installer and the plug-in is a file you'll need to place into Logic's 'Midi Device Plug-ins' folder.

CTRL+click on Logic 9.1.2's icon (from the applications folder)
select 'show package contents'
then select 'contents'
and finally "midi device plug-ins"

the 1.4 version of the AlphaTrack.bundle plug-in (looks like a square white lego) should go into this 'midi device plug-ins' folder replacing any other version.

Does it work?

Hi jayswing,

Were you able to use the AlphaTrack successfully prior to the 64Bit drivers?

It sounds to me like a noise or grounding issue.

Quick test: Do you have a laptop that you can load drivers onto and see if you get different behavior using the AlphaTrack on a laptop running on battery power?

Hi raggedyjack,

If you right click on the ProTools icon are you able to select 'run as administrator?  If so, try that and see if you get better results.

CS

I changed the description for the plug-in.  It should read 9.1.2 and later.

An updated AlphaTrack/Logic plug-in (v1.3) is now available on our AlphaTrack's downloads page:

http://frontierdesign.com/Products/AlphaTrack/Downloads

Anyone using Logic in Logic's 64-Bit mode will need this plug-in (requires Logic 9.1.2).

If you go to www.snoize.com and download the program called 'midi monitor' does the track left and track right buttons display any data in midi monitor's input window?

Make sure under 'sources' in midi monitor that the AlphaTrack is one of the enabled devices.

Press the buttons on the AlphaTrack and see if the track buttons respond differently than the other buttons.

If it seems to check out ok you might want to try deleting your Logic control surface prefs file by doing the following:

First, quit Logic and go to your main drive/users/<your name>/Library/Preferences

and then find com.apple.logic.pro.cs

and delete it and then relaunch Logic and see if that helps.

Hi nitsel,

Which AlphaTrack plug-in did you put in Logic's 'Midi Device Plug-ins' folder?

Did you get the latest one from our site?

You may also want to try going to Logic/Preferences/Control Surfaces

Then select rebuild defaults and see if that helps.

Or you can try going into Logic/Preferences/Control Surfaces/Setup and highlight and delete the AlphaTrack icon and then relaunch Logic and see if that helps.

Hi wmpf,

I'm not sure I completely understand.  I don't think I'm getting a noticeable difference between with the touch strip with Logic running in the foreground/background.

I press play on an audio track and use the touch strip and I'll move the timeline, untouch the touch strip and it plays again.  Then I opened iTunes so that Logic is in the background and I get the same functionality with the timeline/touch strip.

Then I switch between Logic in foreground/background and seems like there's no difference.

Should I try something else?

When you create an instrument track you want to make sure that 'AlphaTrack' isn't selected on the 'Input Routing' in the 'inspector' column.  The only place that the AlphaTrack should be configured is in Device Setup.

Also, you'll want to go to Devices/Device Setup/MIDI Port Setup

Once there you'll want to make sure that the AlphaTrack doesn't have the box checked for "In 'All Midi Inputs'".

Once you do that you should be all set.  With these not in place I experienced the same thing you're describing.

The only other thing I can think of is the AlphaTrack/Cubase plug-in.  If it's older than version 1.0.3 then the sync project and mixer selection has no affect on the AlphaTrack.

Try going here:

http://frontierdesign.com/Products/AlphaTrack/Downloads

scroll down to the 'plug-ins' section and locate the proper plug-in for your computer and version of Cubase.

Since you can use a 32-Bit version of Cubase in a 64-Bit computer you'll want to make sure you have the correct plug-in.  The plug-in is for your version of Cubase so if you're running the 64-Bit version of Cubase you should use the 64-Bit plug-in and vice versa.

This plug-in should replace any other AlphaTrack plug-ins in Cubase's 'components' folder located here:  c:/ProgramFiles/Steinberg/Cubase/Components

Re-launch Cubase, make sure AlphaTrack is configured properly in the device manager and see if it behaves any differently.

Hi spangines,

Are you using an AlphaTrack or a TranzPort.  And what kind of computer are you using?

CS

That looks like the play button is functional because we know from this test that your computer is receiving a signal from the play button.  And it still doesn't work in either Cubase or Logic?

Hi ChrisByrd,

What OS are you running?  Also, try downloading midimonitor from www.snoize.com and make sure that the AlphaTrack is selected in 'sources'.

Press the 'play' button and see if it registers in midi monitor's output window.

CS

Hi rone_92026,

I'm not sure if I completely understand but if I'm not mistaken it sounds like the behavior you're describing is normal. This allows a TranzPort user and someone in front of a computer to make changes to separate tracks without conflicting too much.

The TranzPort won't change the 'active' track in Logic but it can grab the data (track name, whether it's solo'd, muted etc) from each track as it changes from track to track. You should see the track name change on the TranzPort's LCD screen as you press track<< and track>> on the TranzPort and you should see a narrow vertical white bar move on the Logic screen.

If it seems like your track<< and track>> buttons don't work at all I would suggest pressing shift+stop+battery to run some button tests.  When you get to a screen (on your TranzPort) with a bunch of characters on the top line of the LCD display press the track<< and track>> buttons and see if an asterisk (*) is placed under it's respective character.  Turn the encoder to reset the button press asterisks and try again.

Let me know if it sounds like I didn't understand your problem completely.

I should note that there still needs to be an updated AlphaTrack/Logic 'Plug-In' so that the AlphaTrack works properly in the 64-Bit version of Logic and this updated plug-in is coming soon so check our AlphaTrack's downloads page for an update in the coming days.  TranzPort should be all set, so we're just waiting on an AlphaTrack plug-in update.

CS

The updated 'drivers' DO work in the 64-Bit kernel.  The only issue here is the need for an updated AlphaTrack 'plug-in' that will work in Logic64.  The TranzPort works fine in the 64-Bit kernel and in 64-Bit Logic, so we're waiting on an AlphaTrack plug-in (v1.3) which is coming soon so check the AlphaTrack downloads page in the coming days for an update.

CS

For those using Logic64 an AlphaTrack/Logic plug-in (v1.3) is on its way.  Shouldn't be too long so check the AlphaTrack downloads page for a v1.3 AlphaTrack plug-in in the coming days.

CS

Hi daveyboy,

How exactly are you rebooting Logic in 64-Bit/32-Bit modes? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

CS

Hi daveyboy,

This may be because the driver installer checks which kernel you're using to determine which driver to install.  So it's important that you're using the kernel you plan on using when you do the driver install.

So boot using the 64-Bit kernel, make sure the AlphaTrack is unplugged.  Then install the latest (1.4) drivers and reboot (still in 64-Bit kernel) and see if the AlphaTrack manager icon pops up on your computer screen when you reboot.  Then click on it and see if it says "AlphaTrack Available" and that it says version 1.4 in there somewhere.
