Hi langean1,

It's possible that there's a problem with either the fader or it's related components (wires etc).  If you or someone you know has a laptop, you might want to try installing the drivers on the laptop and then use the AlphaTrack on the laptop with the laptop running on battery and see if you still feel the fader fighting you.

Does the fader only fight you when you're in ProTools or does it fight you even when your not in ProTools?

If the AlphaTrack is unplugged does the fader move freely?

If all signs point to a bad fader then you may want to return it to the dealer you purchased it from for a replacement.  If it's too late for that you might want to contact support@frontierdesign.com and see about getting an RMA number for repair.

Hi everyone,

I thought I responded to all Cubase/Mac related posts so sorry for the delay.  Unfortunately this isn't something that we're currently working on so I can't say for sure whether there will be an update or not in the future.  I'll try to keep everyone updated but I just wanted to touch base with everyone here to know that we are aware of these issues, I just can't make any promises.

Hi sumonetoknow,

You should just need to install the latest TranzPort drivers off of our site:

(make sure the USB transceiver is unplugged before you install the drivers)

http://frontierdesign.com/Products/TranzPort/Downloads

After the drivers are installed and you plug in the USB transceiver, a TranzPort icon should pop up on the top of your computer's screen, click on it and make sure that it's on 'HUI' mode.

Then when you launch ProTools you'll want to go to settings/peripherals/midi controllers and set the TYPE to 'HUI' and set the SEND TO and RECEIVE FROM fields both to 'AlphaTrack'.

And if you still need help you can come back here or email our support at support@frontierdesign.com

Hi piangio,

So let me get this straight:

With the AlphaTrack plugged in
And when your computer comes out of suspend/monitor mode
You're never able to test midi-ox because you need to reboot your computer.

Is that correct?

What do you see on your computer screen right before W7 hangs?
Where are you plugging in your AlphaTrack?  Directly into the USB port on your computer?

What power saving settings are you on?  Have you tried different power saving settings (high performance)?

Hi Arjan P,

Unfortunately it sounds like a bad LCD display.  You might want to try fresh batteries if you haven't already but it's probably a display defect.

If you think you have the last TranzPort in Holland we can do repairs but that would mean sending it back to the U.S. for the repair. If you're interested in an RMA you can contact support@frontierdesign.com

Hi Arjan P,

You mentioned that all the controls work in Cubase but then you mention "...also with the remote not linked"

But it's impossible to get functionality without the TranzPort being linked to the USB transceiver.

I'll get to the LCD display later, is the TranzPort linking or isn't it?

Hi grilchy,

For your first question, the best way to do this is described on the top of page 10 of the following document:

http://frontierdesign.com/download/pdf/ … aTrack.pdf

If you lock the AlphaTrack to the master channel and then press shift on the AlphaTrack, you'll be able to control all the faders using your AlphaTrack's fader.

For your second question, you should be able to control a devices parameters.

Is the device whose parameters you're trying to control located in the sequencer tracks?  In the middle of page 4 of that document it says the following:

"Remember that by default, sequencer tracks are created only for audio tracks and instrument devices.
Record will create a sequencer track for automation of mixer or effect devices if you hold down [Alt]
(Windows) or [Option] (Mac) when you add the new mixer or effect device."

If this doesn't help, then try to create a fresh small project and insert one specific device (so that I can try to replicate it) and tell me exactly what device it is and what you expect it to control.

Hi langean1,

Has it worked for you in the past or was it like this out of the box?  What you're describing sounds a lot like a grounding issue that we've seen occasionally.  Is your machine properly grounded? Are you plugging your AlphaTrack into a USB hub?

It seems to come out of sleep and monitor power saving ok on the computer here (Win7 64).

try this:

Close all programs and go to www.midiox.com and download midi-ox.  When you launch midi-ox, go to options/midi devices and make sure that in midi input and midi output both have'AlphaTrack' highlighted then move the fader and knobs and see if data shows up in midi-ox's midi input window.  Once you confirm that midi-ox is displaying data from the AlphaTrack try to get the power saving features of your OS to crash the AlphaTrack but when you come out of these power saving features check to see if the AlphaTrack still sends data to midi-ox.

If it doesn't, check options/midi devices and see if the AlphaTrack is still selected.

Can you describe the crashes in more detail?  Can you also explain to me what your power management settings are at, and where you're changing them.  I'm not sure what suspend mode is.

Hi piangio,

Does the LCD screen on the AlphaTrack dim at all after those 5 minute?  Because it won't turn off completely, it will only dim.

Hi jnoseworthy,

In short, no.  Unfortunately since the TranzPort has been discontinued support for Goldwave/TranzPort integration probably won't materialize.

Thank you for your support.

Hi rpmusic,

First, I would try bypassing the hub and plug the AlphaTrack directly into your computer, then launch DP and see if it behaves any differently.

If not, try unplugging all other controllers except the AlphaTrack and launch DP and see if it behaves any differently.

CS

Hi rpmusic,

I'm running an AlphaTrack in DP 7 and can't seem to replicate these symptoms.

If you create a new project with just a couple audio tracks in it, give me step by step instructions as to what you're doing to try to record automation.

I opened a project, navigated to an empty audio track, pressed the AlphaTrack's 'auto' button, turned the middle and right encoders to 'ON' and then the left encoder I set to 'Touch'.

I pressed play and moved the fader and was able to see automation being recorded on the Track.

Are you set up correctly in "setup/control surfaces/setup"? Do you have any other midi devices in your setup?

Hi Resonator,

Did you set the AlphaTrack in both Input and Output in the Options/MIDI settings in FL Studio as explained here:

(see 'FL Studio Setup' on page 1of5)

Hi Chris,

I'm guessing you meant November 2010? Is that correct?

If you go to www.snoize.com you can download this program called MidiMonitor. With midi monitor you'll be able to see the incoming midi data from your AlphaTrack and monitor it in this program.

Once you download it and launch it, make sure that the 'AlphaTrack' box is checked under the 'Sources' menu.  Then you'll see midi messages for each button that you press.  Press a few good buttons to get used to how the messages look, then try the 'PLAY' button.  Press it a few times, does it work on some presses and not on others?

If it appears to be in need of repair, you can contact support@frontierdesign.com for an RMA number.

Hi marcovalerio1,

Try recalibrating the fader and see if that helps.  You can do that by pressing shift+stop+f4 on the AlphaTrack.  Let me know if that helps.

Also, pay attention to how the fader moves during the recalibration and let me know how it's moving.  It should move the same way each time and if it doesn't then it can be a hardware issue.

CS

Hi MikeRocker,

This could be because the AlphaTrack needs to be configured in Device Setup in your new version of Cubase.

If you've already placed the plug-ins into Cubase components folder then you should be able to go to Devices/Device Setup (in Cubase) and click on remote devices and then click on the (+) button on that window to add a control surface.  AlphaTrack should be on that list as long as there is an AlphaTrack plug-in in Cubase's components folder.

Once you select the AlphaTrack controller you'll also want to set the midi input and midi output fields (on the same window) to 'AlphaTrack'.

Now the AlphaTrack should be able to send/receive messages with Cubase.  You may also need to go to the midi setup and make sure that the AlphaTrack doesn't have a checked box for 'All midi inputs'.  Or else your AlphaTrack can send midi notes to your softinstruments.

Hi ChrisByrd,

This could just be an intermittent button failure.  It could be on its way out and in need of repair.  Is this a new AlphaTrack or have you had it a while?

Hi Living_Culture,

That'll do it.  I haven't tried a version of Reason (after 3.04) that did NOT work.  So you should be good as long as you update your current version.

Hi Soundtrack2life,

We are aware of the F-J inserts. If I remember correctly I think that was added from PT7 to PT8 and it's yet to be updated so I'd have to say if it will be added I don't see it happening in the near future. Sorry for the ambiguity but that's all I can really say at this point.

Hi Living_Culture,

What's your exact version of Reason?  I know you mentioned you read the manual but I just want to confirm that you have a version of Reason that is compatible with the AlphaTrack.  Some versions of Reason 3 aren't compatible and require an update to a later version (3.04 if I remember correctly).

Hi lemmike,

Are you using grouped tracks.  I noticed similar issues when I was using grouped tracks in Live.  Tracks were named appropriately until I started grouping tracks.

Hi Curtis,

I don't think this is possible.  Only certain button combinations are mappable in Cubase, not the datawheel.

I don't think I was able to find any tempo "nudge" functions in Cubase's key mappings so I could be wrong but I'm not sure this would be possible even if the datawheel were mappable in Cubase.
