Hi glencollie,

We aren't aware of any specific issues.  We don't have a copy of FCPX so if you do end up trying it we'd all be curious as to the results.

Hi jeracravo,

I downloaded Ardour but I don't see any selection for 'Logic' anywhere in there.  I did see a menu for controllers but I don't see 'Logic' in there.

So far I have been unable to get the AlphaTrack to control anything but I'm not too familiar with Ardour.  Does it sound like I'm missing something?

Hi toj,

Try this...
Launch Logic and go to Logic/Preferences/Control Surfaces/Setup and highlight and delete the AlphaTrack's icon there.

Then,

Try going here:

http://frontierdesign.com/Products/AlphaTrack/Downloads

and scroll down to the 'Plug-In' section and grab the 'Logic Plug-In v1.2'.

Then go to your applications folder and locate the 8.02 version of Logic (make sure it's the same version that you're currently using)

Then right click or CTRL+click on the icon (but don't launch it) and select 'show package contents' then select 'contents' and finally 'midi device plug-ins'.

Place the AlphaTrack.bundle file (v1.2) into this 'Midi Device Plug-ins' folder replacing any other versions of an AlphaTrack.bundle that may already exist in there.  Then relaunch Logic and see if that helps.

Otherwise if all this doesn't work you should try deleting your Logic control surface prefs files by doing the following:

Go to your main hard drive/Users/<your name>/Library/Preferences

And delete these two Logic Prefs files and reboot Logic:

com.apple.logic.pro.cs
com.apple.logic.pro.plist

Sorry for the delay RedRobin,

I've updated our drivers page to mention which drivers are needed for Lion.  You'll want the latest drivers for Lion.

Hi shep,

If these don't show up in the utilities/Frontier AlphaTrack window, then try going through Sonar's Key Bindings and see if they show up there.

If it does, then you can assign a key binding to that function, THEN, go into utilities/AlphaTrack and assign THAT key binding to an AlphaTrack button.

Hi toj,

First I would make sure that you don't have any other recording programs open (other than logic). This can cause confusion between apps if they're both wanting to use the AlphaTrack.

Another thing you can try is to try a repair permissions on your Mac by going to go/utility/disk utility/repair disk permissions.

Then try again.

Does the AlphaTrack show up in logic/preferences/control surfaces/setup?

Hi BeerMaster,

The AlphaTrack can't directly control cc data but if you are using the sample libraries in Logic, you should be able to access all the plug-in parameters (like expression) using the AlphaTrack's 'plugin' mode button. From there you can select which plugin to access and then select the parameter for control.

Hope this helps.

Hi RedRobin,

Sorry for the delay. If you go to Logic/Preferences/KeyCommands then click the dropdown arrow for "Arrange Window" the top two commands are:

"Select Previous Region on Selected Track"
"Select Next Region on Selected Track"

If I select one of them I can then press "Learn New Assignment", then press a button on the AlphaTrack for example 'F1'.  You'll then see this button show up in the 'Assignments' window on the same screen.  I was successfully able to advance to the next region and then go back to previous regions using this technique.  There are many other available commands and sometimes you don't even know what you're able to control until you sort through them all and find the commands that are most useful to you.

Keep in mind that this may override other commands that these buttons used to control.

You can reset back to the old commands by going to Logic/Preferences/Control Surfaces/Rebuild Defaults

Hi Mac88s,

Unfortunately the Command 8 doesn't appear to allow other 3rd party midi controllers to be available.

Hi acid-hamburg,

There is no 'reset' on the AlphaTrack.
When you try the recalibration (shift+stop+f4) does the screen say (Recalibrating...Don't touch)?

If the fader doesn't move when you try to recalibrate it then that sounds like a hardware failure and you should try returning it to the dealer you purchased it from for a replacement.

Otherwise if recalibration seems to work...

Try this:

Go to www.midiox.com and download this program called midi-ox.

Launch Midi-Ox and go to options/midi devices and make sure that 'AlphaTrack' is highlighted for both midi input and midi output. Then move your fader and you should get a continuous flow of data for as long as you're moving the fader.

When you touch a knob you should get a 'note on' message and when you untouch the knob you should get a 'note off' message.  Touch the fader knob and move it and let me know if you see anything wrong.

One more thing to try:
If the fader works when you move the Nuendo fader but not when you move the AlphaTrack's fader you should make sure that in Nuendo's devices/device setup menu that 'AlphaTrack' controller under remote devices has its midi input and output fields set to 'AlphaTrack'

Hi acid-hamburg,

What kind of computer are you using? (laptop/desktop, pc/mac...etc)

What happens when you try to press shift+stop+f4? (recalibrate)

When your AlphaTrack is plugged in does the little AlphaTrack icon show up anywhere on your computer screen (top right/bottom right)?

Have you tried using the AlphaTrack on another computer to see if you get different results?

Hi jdvece,

That's because in order for the AlphaTrack to work with ProTools we had to emulate a HUI. The track you're on should be the first track in the group of 8. Other controllers need to do this as well and unfortunately there's no way around this.

Hi matriq,

If the fader is moving up but not down in calibration too then this is most likely a hardware issue.  I'd send support@frontierdesign.com an email and see about getting this repaired.

Well if the icon shows up on your computer then that means the drivers installed correctly and the two should be able to link.  So if they're not linking now then my guess is that there's something wrong with either the USB transceiver or the remote.

You might want to send an email to support@frontierdesign.com to see about getting an RMA number to send it in for repair.  But before you do that you might want to try installing drivers on another machine and see if the TranzPort will bind on another machine.  Just in case.

Hi nashmusprod,

The first thing I would try is manually binding the TranzPort with the USB transceiver. This is probably what you've done in the past.

What you should do is plug in the USB transceiver and check that the TranzPort manager's icon pops up on the taskbar.

If so, press shift+battery on your TranzPort. While the TranzPort LCD screen reads, "binding...please wait" you should press the button on the USB transceiver. The green Link LED's on each device 'should' now be lit.

If not, then there may be a hardware problem.

I tried the AlphaTrack and TranzPort in Lion (Logic 9.1.4) and everything seems functional with each device.  So using the current drivers should be all you need.

I think that's correct, no controller emulating a HUI anyways. We would have implemented this, we've used user programmables in most of the other recording applications, in ProTools we couldn't because of HUI emulation.

Hi brissyproducer,

Glad to hear that you've got things working.  This is probably because the AlphaTrack installer chooses to install the AlphaTrack/Cubase plug-in that reflects your OS, which in this case is a 64-Bit OS, so the installer may have installed the 64-bit AlphaTrack/Cubase plug-in which is the wrong plug-in for your 32-Bit version of Cubase.

Manually installing it probably solved that.

This is a good test to see if there are any issues with the fader.  You should also press the buttons and turn the knobs and test all the AlphaTrack controls and let me know what you find.

Have you tried recalibrating?  shift+stop+f4 on the AlphaTrack.

Hi piangio,

When power saving turns your monitor off and you try to turn your monitor back on (by moving the mouse lets say) when you say your computer 'hangs' do you mean?  Does it blue screen or does your computer freeze?  Does anything appear on your computer screen when this happens?  Are you able to move the mouse on the computer screen?  If it appears like your mouse is frozen, try unplugging it and replugging it in.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out what 'kind' of crash this is.

Hi thatjeffguy,

Go to your applications folder and locate your Cubase 6 icon.  CTRL+click on it and select "Get Info", there's a checkbox there that says "launch in 32-Bit mode".  I'm assuming you have this box unchecked (therefore launching in 64-Bit mode).  Try checking that box so that Cubase launches in 32-Bit mode (the Cubase splash screen should say 32 or 64 bit mode when launched).  Launching Cubase 6 in 32 bit mode should get you a TranzPort controller in the controller list.

Try that and let me know if it works.

Hi thatjeffguy,

If you're using the 32-Bit kernel on your mac then the TranzPort should show up in the device list, but if you're using the 64-bit kernel I don't think it will show up on the list.

This is because (if I remember correctly) Cubase 6 was the first to have a 64-Bit version for the mac and there isn't a 64-Bit TranzPort plug-in for Cubase on the mac.

So, the Tranzport is unstable in Cubase 6 with the current plug-in on the mac and this will be true until the plug-ins are updated and unfortunately I don't think this will be any time in the near future.

The TranzPort will work in Cubase 6 on a PC but unfortunately for the mac there will be problems.  Sorry.
