Phrase Settings

The Phrase Settings screen lets you adjust four settings that are specific to the selected phrase, and two settings that are part of the song settings which affect all phrases.

The Phrase Settings are:

Bars
tap to zoom in & out
The number of bars (measures) in the phrase, from one to four.

Song's Beats Per Bar
Sets the number of beats in a bar. As the name suggests, this is a Song setting, and affects all phrases. It can also be adjusted on the "Record" tab of the Song's Settings screen.

Beat Subdivisions (Quantization)
Determines how many sub-beats constitute each quarter-note beat in the measure. For example, setting this to "4" will create a grid in the Phrase Editor in which horizontal units are one sixteenth-note wide. Notes created or moved on this grid will snap to sixteenth-note boundaries.

Start at First Note
Normally Phrase Buttons begin playback with the first beat of the phrase. But if you don't have any notes on the first beat, pressing the Phrase Button will result in ... silence! (Or more accurately, there will be period of silence corresponding to the number of silent beats.) Turning on Start at First Note lets you skip over any silent beats at the beginning of the phrase. This is very useful for phrases with "pick up" notes.

Play Loop
By default a Phrase Button plays once all the way through while it is being held. If this switch is ON, the phrase plays over and over until the button is released.

Song's Tempo
This setting is a Song Setting and affects all phrases in the song, as well as the tempo of the metronome. You can press the Play button at the top of the screen to hear the current phrase as you adjust the tempo.
