Common Questions and Their Answers
- I can't hear any sound on my iPhone!
- Most likely you've turned the silent/ringer switch to silent. Flip the switch back to ringer and you should be ready to rock (or roll).
- Does this work on an iPod Touch?
- Yes. Of course you'll need to plug in headsets or external speakers on a first generation iPod Touch to hear the audio. The only requirement is that your iPhone or iPod Touch is running at least version 2.2.1 (it works great with 3.0 as well).
- Can I do anything to help PianoStudio run well?
- Absolutely! After you install PianoStudio on your device, we strongly recommend that you
power it off and then on again. Not just put it to sleep and back. Hold the power button
down until the "slide to power off" slider appears, then use it.
Like many large, powerful iPhone apps, PianoStudio works best when as much system memory as possible is available. Apparently some other apps, like Safari and the music player can hang onto memory even when they have stopped running. Power cycling your iPhone or iPod touch reclaims that memory for use by PianoStudio. There are also a couple of iPhone apps to reclaim memory that you might find useful, such as Free Memory and Memory Status. - There are other piano programs for the iPhone. Why should I buy this one?
- Good question. We have used them all. Maybe you have, too. We think PianoStudio is the best piano app available for these key reasons:
- PianoStudio Sounds Amazing! It includes high-quality, sound samples of pianos made with high-end recording equipment that were carefully crafted to provide realistic endless sustain.
- PianoStudio is Easy to Play No cramming your fingers to fit on-screen pianos is required. You create songs with as many or as few buttons on the screen as you wish, arranged and colored as you please. And you can program them with the note, chords, or phrases you want. The result can be rearranged and edited to your desires, making it easy to turn a simple set of buttons into the easy to play song that you desire.
- PianoStudio is Simple, Yet Powerful Thousands of pre-defined chords at the ready, an editor that supports whatever phrases your imagination can conceive, scores of buttons over five banks to use, tilt-enabled expression of sustain and volume ... This iPhone piano app is not some novelty for tapping out Chop Sticks. This app is a real musical tool for song writing and performance.
- How do you play those complicated songs that I've seen on the demo videos with just a few buttons?
- In PianoStudio, buttons can play single notes or chords, but they can also be programmed to play short musical phrases. There is a simple but powerful Phrase Editor that lets you create simple or elaborate sequences of notes and chords.
- What are all the chords in the Chord Selectors?
- There are 27 chord types, each available in all 12 keys and over 7 octaves, in all inversions, and optionally without the root note. The chord types (in no particular order) are: dim, minor, Major, Aug, dim7, min7, 7, 7♯5, m7♭5, mMaj7, Maj7, m7♯5, 7♭5, min9, 9, 5, 7♭9, mMaj9, Maj9, add9, sus2, min6, 6, 6add9, 7sus2, sus4, 7sus4.
- How do you control how long a note is played?
- Another good question. PianoStudio lets you decide. You can set up a song to stop a note when you release its button, when you play another note (great for legato transitions), or to keep ringing until you tilt it up (like a sustain pedal on a real piano).
- How do I play along with tunes on the iPod/Music player?
- This works on PianoStudio the same as it does on our Guitar and iShred products. You can read how to do this in detail at the bottom of this page. You can also watch it happen in action in this video.
