AirPlay
Guitar version 1.3 and later opens up a whole new dimension called AirPlay, a fun new way to listen to Guitar and iShred songs posted by other users from around the world. And you can also share your songs with other Guitar and iShred users as well. Record your best tracks and show them off!
There are 3 parts to the AirPlay system:
- Listening to shared songs on AirPlay
- Sharing your own AirPlay songs
- Managing your shared AirPlay songs
Listening to AirPlay
Activate Airplay by tapping the General Menu button
in the bottom left of the main screen
and selecting "AirPlay." A map of the world will appear along with a small red airplane icon.
(This airplane may be small but it sports the latest in high-speed propulsion.)
It will fly randomly from one user's location to the next, stopping to play up to 30 seconds of a song that has been shared by that user.
While each song is playing several things will be displayed:
- The chord/fret/scale view and selection buttons as recorded by the posting user
- The song title followed by the posting user's nickname, the song's genre, and an icon to show whether the song was originally recorded with Guitar or iShred. If the original source is different than what you are listening with it will affect how the song sounds. This is because Guitar string sounds will be substituted for iShred's electric sound, or visa-versa.
- After a few seconds the user's nickname and genre will fade away and be replaced with the average rating for the song currently playing (from 1 to 5 stars). Tap a star to add your rating of the song to its global tally.
- A toolbar along the bottom of the screen. This toolbar provides the following options for controlling AirPlay and saving songs you're hearing.
Exit - Takes you back to the Main screen and your current song
Back - Replays the previous song (Note that you can only go back one song)
Skip - This song is terrible! Skip puts you right back on the plane to the next destination
Add - Press this while a song is playing and it will be saved to your own Playlist. This is a great way to learn new songs and playing styles. If the song you are saving was shared by an iShred user then its original sound will be substituted with Guitar's acoustic sound.

As AirPlay songs are being played, animation indicating chord and scale selection, as well as string playing, lets you see exactly how a song was performed.
As soon as Airplay has reached the 30 second limit it's time to climb back on board and be whisked off to visit another Guitar or iShred user just waiting to show of his or her best stuff.
Sharing Your Songs with AirPlay
Sharing your songs is easy. There are only have 2 requirements for sharing a recording over AirPlay:
- It must be at least 10 seconds in length, and contain a minimum of 10 events. Events include notes played and buttons pressed.
- The song name, any comments included with the song, and user's nickname must not be considered offensive or otherwise inappropriate by our in-house panel of judges.
Once you finish recording a song, if it meets the minimum requirements, a highlighted button labeled "Share" will appear at the bottom edge of the Recorder panel. If you are already logged in to your online Guitar account, then tap this button and the "Share Song" window will appear. (If you are not already logged into your online account then you will be prompted to do so.)
This shows the name of the current song as well as a wheel asking you to select the genre of music that your song falls under. Turn the wheel to the appropriate style and press the blue "Share" button in the upper right corner. The song will be sent to the AirPlay server and entered into the AirPlay library.
If this is the first time that you have shared a song then you will be asked if AirPlay can use your current location to indicate where the song came from on AirPlay's global map. (If you choose "No" then a random location will be used for your songs.)
Note: Each time you return to the recorder view, if the current song meets the minimum requirements for AirPlay then the "Share" button will be visable even if you have already shared this song. You do not need to press it again. However, if you make any changes to the the song and re-share it, the original song will be overwritten on the AirPlay server UNLESS you also edit the song name.
Managing Your AirPlay Song List
Any time you are logged into your Guitar account you can view the list of songs that you have shared over AirPlay. You can also remove any songs from your shared AirPlay list if desired.
To view your Airplay song list enter your Playlist and tap the backup icon in the toolbar at the bottom.
Touch the "Shared" button at the top of the Backup screen and a list of your currently shared songs will appear. Here you can see how many times your song has been played, how many times it has been saved by other Airplay listeners, and the average rating they are giving it.
To remove a song from your shared list simply press the "Edit" button in the bottom left corner. A red circular icon will appear to the left of each song title. Tap the icon next to the song you want to remove, followed by the "Delete" button that appears to the right of the same song. The deleted song will be immediately removed from the AirPlay server.
Remember, the only way to add a song back to the AirPlay server is from the Recorder panel when that song is loaded.
To view, or edit the shared songs in another Guitar or iShred accounts, press "Account" in the bottom right corner of the Shared screen. This will bring you back to the Logout/Login screen where you can change accounts.
